THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Organizers of the International Film Festival of Kerala 2025 will not screen three films following very strong objections to six by the external affairs ministry, which on Thursday warned of legal action if they were screened, said the chairman of the state Chalachitra Academy (festival organizer). Result Pookutty said at a press conference here. The six films that did not receive a censorship exemption for the festival are “All That’s Left of You,” “Yes!”, “Eagles of the Republic,” “A Poet,” “Flames” and “Clash.” But three of them – “Eagles of the Republic”, “A Poet” and “Flames” – had already been screened as the state government had announced it would screen all films regardless of permission after many were denied censorship exemptions.Pookutty told reporters that they decided not to screen the films after MEA said it was not good for the country’s security. The ministry said: “They would have to convene other sections if the organizers violated this. Therefore, without any political consultation, the academy decided not to screen these films,” he said. The festival ends on Friday.Pookutty said none of the films received exemptions initially and then they were granted exemptions in batches. Barring six films, all films were finally released, he said.Due to initial uncertainty about whether the films could be shown at all, the venues for some films had to be changed.
