NEW DELHI: The BJP on Saturday targeted the Gandhi-Vadra family, claiming that “their hatred of Dalit people is so blatant”. The saffron party’s accusation came soon after the Congress held a press conference in which the party leader was present Mallikarjun Kharge He initially said he would not read the full note out loud and would instead release it to the media, before being interrupted moments later by the party’s general secretary, who urged him to read it out.BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari shared a clip of the exchange and accused the Congress leadership of disrespecting Kharge. He wrote on X: “Be it Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi or Jairam Ramesh, their hatred for a “DALIT” is so obvious! Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge clearly stated that he would not read the full notice and would instead leak it to the press. Within seconds, Jairam Ramesh intervened and instructed him to read it out. And Kharge ji obeyed. This is how the Gandhi-Vadra family treats its own president!”
At the press conference, the Congress announced a nationwide protest against the Centre’s decision to replace the rural employment scheme MGNREGA with the so-called VB G Ram G Act.Addressing the Congress Working Committee meeting, Kharge said replacing a scheme named after Mahatma Gandhi would amount to insulting the father of the nation.Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi took the decision to scrap MGNREGA without consulting relevant ministers or even the Union Cabinet. The LoP also vowed to oppose the move and said, “As Kharge ji said, we will oppose it. We will fight it. And I am confident that the entire opposition will line up against this action.”
