US President Donald Trump claimed on Saturday that Venezuelan forces were “waiting” for American forces with “a lot of disabled ships.”Trump said that despite their “readiness position,” Venezuelan forces were “totally overwhelmed and very quickly put out of action.”He said the US was “ready” to launch a second “and much larger” attack on the country if necessary. Washington was initially prepared for a “second wave” and assumed it would be necessary – but given the success of last night’s attack, this is “probably not the case now”.The US president also said the US had “repelled 97 percent of drugs imported by sea” and claimed that each boat carrying drugs killed an average of 25,000 people. Trump said the lights were turned off in Caracas as Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro was captured overnight and praised those involved for carrying out the mission.“No nation in the world could accomplish what America accomplished yesterday, or frankly, in just a short period of time, all of Venezuela’s military capabilities were rendered powerless when the men and women of our military, working with us, law enforcement, successfully captured Maduro in the middle of the night. It was dark, the lights of Caracas were mostly off because of our certain expertise,” Trump said in a press conference, adding that “it was dark and deadly.”Just minutes before the press conference, Trump posted a photo of Nicolas Maduro sitting in custody on a U.S. Navy ship wearing both a blindfold and handcuffs.“Nicolas Maduro aboard the USS Iwo Jima,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform, along with an image showing Maduro hours after he was kidnapped by US forces. The Venezuelan leader appeared to be wearing noise-cancelling earmuffs as well as gray sweatpants with a Nike logo and a jacket.
