Dhaka: Bangladesh Nationalist Party youth leader shot dead in Karwan Bazar area – report

A leader of the Swechchhasebak Dal, the volunteer wing of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, was shot dead in Dhaka’s Karwan Bazaar area on Tuesday evening, while another man was injured, according to police and local reports.The victim, Azizur Rahman Musabbir, was a former general secretary of the Dhaka City North Swechchhasebak Dal. The shooting took place at around 8.40pm on Kazi Nazrul Islam Avenue near Star Hotel in Karwan Bazar, The Daily Star reported.Fazlul Karim, additional deputy commissioner of Tejgaon zone of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, confirmed the incident and said the miscreants opened fire on Musabbir and another man, identified as Sufian Byapari Masud.Musabbir was rushed to BRB Hospital in Panthapath where doctors declared him dead, the police officer said. Masud was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and is currently being treated in the emergency room.Mohammad Javed, who took Masud to the hospital, said Masud was general secretary of Tejgaon thana Van Workers’ Union and a resident of Keraniganj.After the shooting, around 200 BNP leaders and activists gathered at Karwan Bazar intersection and held an event protestsaid a local correspondent.
