HAPPINESS: Disturbed over the deletion of 2.89 million voters from the Uttar Pradesh electoral roll after the SIR exercise, the state unit of the BJP has decided to launch a campaign to find the ‘absent’ and ‘postponed’ voters ahead of the 2027 assembly elections. The announcement comes following CM Yogi Adityanath’s claim that majority of the “missing” voters were primarily BJP supporters. According to one estimate, UP’s electoral roll is likely to have over 15 million voters. A senior party official said the campaign will focus on three key areas: finding absentee and carry-over voters, re-registering voters whose names were deleted due to documentation gaps and reaching out to first-time voters, particularly youth. The campaign will involve party MPs, MLAs and MLCs at the local level. The district units were alerted to carry out the operation aggressively. A particular focus will be on completing Form 6, the main application used by Indian citizens to register as a new voter or have their registration transferred when moving to another constituency. Experts said the focus on Form 6 suggests that the BJP is trying to align its cadre network closely with EC procedures and formally keep the effort within legal limits.
