Vande Bharat Sleeper: Top Features

During test runs on the Kota-Nagda section, the Vande Bharat threshold reached its planned maximum speed of 180 km/h. One of the highlights of the test was a stability demonstration in which glasses filled with water remained stable without spilling, even at speeds over 180 km/h. Although the train is designed for semi-high speed operation at up to 160 km/h on regular services, tests were carried out at 180 km/h. Actual operating speeds will depend on the condition and performance of the tracks in different sections of the network. The sleeper version is designed as a long-distance overnight counterpart to the Vande Bharat chaircar services that currently operate across India.Inspired by European rail design, the sleeping cars feature padded berths for comfort and redesigned access to the upper berths for easier movement. Passenger amenities include soft night lighting, integrated audio-visual passenger information systems, video surveillance and modular galley units. The trains will be equipped with aircraft-style bio-vacuum toilets, including facilities for people with disabilities, baby care areas and hot water shower units in the first class carriage. Safety systems include indigenous KAVACH anti-collision technology, while regenerative braking is used to improve energy efficiency, similar to the existing Vande Bharat chaircar trains.Other features include sealed aisles and automatic doors between cars to maintain air quality and cabin temperature, as well as personal reading lights, charging stations, folding snack tables and fiberglass panel interiors. At certain stations the train doors open automatically. A centralized bus monitoring system and emergency communication facilities allow passengers to contact the train driver directly if necessary.
