Russia on Tuesday condemned what it called “subversive external interference” in Iran’s domestic politics and warned of “catastrophic consequences” after US President Donald Trump urged demonstrators to continue their protests.According to Reuters, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement: “Anyone planning to use externally inspired unrest as a pretext for repeating the aggression against Iran committed in June 2025 must be aware of the catastrophic consequences of such actions for the situation in the Middle East and global international security.”
The comments came after Trump told Iranian protesters to take over the institutions and said “help is on the way.”In a post on Truth Social, Trump also dropped the term “MIGA” and suggested “making Iran great again” and announced that he had canceled all of his meetings with Iranian officials.“Iranian Patriots, KEEP PROTESTING – TAKE OVER YOUR INSTITUTIONS!!! Remember the names of the murderers and perpetrators. They will pay a heavy price. I have canceled all meetings with Iranian officials until the senseless killing of protesters STOP. HELP IS ON THE WAY. MIGA!!! PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP,” Trump said in a post.

Protests sparked by the deteriorating economic situation reportedly spread to all 31 provinces in Iran.About 2,000 people were killed and more than 10,700 arrested, according to Reuters reports, although the Iranian government did not release official casualty figures. The Associated Press said it was unable to independently verify the toll due to widespread internet shutdowns and limitations on reporting.Iran’s economy remained under severe strain, with the rial plunging to over 1.4 million per dollar due to soaring inflation and rising prices for basic goods. Anger has also been fueled by cuts in fuel subsidies and the removal of preferential exchange rates for most imports. The unrest came as Iran faces increasing external pressure following a 12-day war with Israel in June, US attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities and the weakening of Tehran’s regional allies.US President Donald Trump warned that Washington would respond if Iran continued to “violently kill peaceful protesters.”
