'Told from good authority': Donald Trump says killing of protesters in Iran will 'stop'; claims “no plans for executions”

US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that he had been informed “from a reliable source” that executions in Iran had “stopped.” Although Tehran has indicated it may carry out swift trials and executions in the face of a crackdown on protesters.“We were told that the killing in Iran stopped – it has stopped – it is stopping,” Trump said. “And there is no plan for executions or an execution or executions – that’s what I’m told from a reliable source.”The US president made the comment after recently assuring Iranians protesting in their country that “help is on the way” and that his administration would “act accordingly” in response to Iran’s actions. However, Trump gave no indication of how the U.S. might intervene, and it remains unclear whether his comments signal a pause in possible action. On Tuesday, Trump met with his national security team to discuss possible next steps after calling the killings in Iran “significant,” the Associated Press reported. Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and senior White House National Security Council officials met last Friday to develop options for Trump, ranging from diplomatic responses to military action. At least 2,586 people were killed by Iranian security forces during the protests, according to the U.S.-based Human Rights Activists News Agency.
