The much-awaited film, which hit theaters on Friday, has reportedly crossed the Rs 50 crore mark just two days after its release.However, the film, which continues to be a key family entertainer on the big screen this holiday season, performed worse than expected for a blockbuster franchise release. According to a report by Sacnilk, the film grossed around Rs 23.25 crore on its opening day. However, it posted modest growth of about 15 percent on Saturday, providing some relief after a comparatively muted start.

Early box office reports suggest that the film grossed an estimated Rs 22.35 million nett on the second day. The film’s net revenue was largely funded by English language screenings, which grossed around Rs 10.50 crore, followed by the Hindi version at around Rs 6.25 crore. The Tamil dubbed version grossed an estimated Rs 3 crore nett while the Telugu version grossed around Rs 2.50 crore.

In terms of gross receipts, the film earned an estimated Rs 26.57 crore on the second day, with English shows contributing around Rs 12.60 crore, followed by Hindi’s Rs 7.50 crore. The Tamil and Telugu versions also posted solid numbers, earning around Rs 3.48 crore and Rs 2.88 crore respectively.

“Avatar: Fire and Ash” recorded a second-day average occupancy of 23.8 percent, reflecting broad market penetration across all regions with 5,091 performances across the country.

Despite its wide release and strong brand recall, the film struggled to match its predecessor’s opening momentum. As per the reports, the film has grossed almost half of what ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ earned on its first day in India in 2022. Back then, the film had a massive start at the Indian box office, grossing nearly Rs 50 crore on the opening day in all versions and grossing around Rs 100 crore in the first two days. In comparison, the box office performance of “Fire and Ash” is now almost 50 percent behind at the same time.

Industry observers believe the film’s opening potential may have been hampered by its ongoing blockbuster streak Ranveer Singhis ‘Dhurandhar’ which continues to dominate the box office in its third week. The film has outshined all new releases and continues its blockbuster run in the Indian markets. The film, which ran for 16 days at the box office, managed to collect an impressive net collection of Rs 33.50 Crore.

Early predictions for Avatar: Fire and Ash.

While the numbers posted by Avatar: Fire and Ash are still high for a Hollywood release in India, they are considered disappointing for a franchise of this magnitude. The film is expected to have a steady run and gross a debut weekend collection worth an estimated Rs 75 Crore. However, Dhurandhar’s continued dominance at the Indian box office might prove difficult in the coming days.
