NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi accused the Mamata Banerjee government of “misrule” in poll-prone West Bengal soon after civic poll results in Maharashtra showed a big victory for Mahayuti.“I look forward to being among the people of Malda and adjoining areas during the BJP rally tomorrow. Every day one or the other example of TMC misrule comes to light,” he said in a post on X.
The prime minister’s comments come amid the standoff between the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Mamata Banerjee, stemming from central agency raids on January 8 at the Kolkata office of political consultancy I-PAC and the residence of its boss Pratik Jain. During the operation, ED officials alleged they were obstructed and disturbed by the Bengal CM, prompting the agency to approach the Supreme Court.Prime Minister Modi will visit West Bengal and Assam on January 17 and 18. He will flag off India’s first Vande Bharat sleeper train connecting Howrah and Guwahati, inaugurate and launch several development projects in the two poll-bound states and conduct the bhoomi pujan for the Kaziranga elevated corridor project.Both Bengal and Assam will hold elections this year.According to an official statement, he will visit Malda in West Bengal at around 12.45 pm on Saturday where he will flag off India’s first Vande Bharat sleeper train, which runs between Howrah and Guwahati (Kamakhya), from Malda Town railway station.On January 18 around 3 pm, Prime Minister Modi will inaugurate, lay foundation stones and announce approval of several development projects worth about Rs 830 crore at Singur in Hooghly district of West Bengal.
