JAMMU: BSF arrested a 19-year-old Bangladeshi national from suburban areas near the international border in Gajansoo of Jammu district on Thursday during routine border surveillance.“After completing the initial formalities, BSF handed over Shariful Islam Bhuiyan, a resident of Comilla district of Bangladesh, to the local police for further legal action. Shariful is being interrogated to find out the circumstances that led to his presence near the international border,” police said.Two mobile phones, several debit and credit cards of Bangladeshi banks, a blank check and some medicines were recovered from Shariful’s possession.“Initial investigations revealed that the individual arrived in India on December 1, 2025 and landed at Delhi’s IGI airport. He stayed at several hotels in Paharganj and Karol Bagh areas of Delhi before traveling to Jammu via Jalandhar by bus early on December 31,” an official said.When questioned, Shariful claimed that he came to India for tourism purposes. He also claimed that he applied for a Portugal visa and came to India as the Portuguese embassy in Bangladesh was unavailable.“Agencies are checking his travel documents, banking details, digital devices and contacts,” the official added.
