NEW DELHI: US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor arrived in India on Friday and said “incredible opportunities” lie ahead for the two countries. In a post on X, Gor wrote: “Great to be back in India! Both our nations have incredible opportunities ahead of them!”His arrival follows the US President Donald TrumpThe passage on Thursday of a bill imposing tariffs of at least 500% on countries that import Russian oil is intended to “punish” them. U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham said the bill would give the U.S. significant influence over countries like China, India and Brazil and encourage them to stop buying discounted Russian oil.Gor was sworn in as US ambassador to India at the White House in November. Following the ceremony, US President Donald Trump emphasized the importance of relations with India and expressed confidence in Gor.Before his swearing-in, Gor had visited India in October where he met Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Foreign Minister S Jaishankar and National Security Adviser Ajit Doval. In August, Trump appointed Gor as India’s next ambassador and special envoy to South and Central Asia. During his testimony before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee in September, Gor emphasized that India is “one of our nation’s (US) most important relationships in the world.”
