The Kuwait Public Service Commission has declared January 1, 2026 as a public holiday, allowing government employees a three-day New Year’s weekend until Saturday, January 3. Official work will resume on Sunday, January 4, allowing residents and officials to welcome 2026 with a short but refreshing break while essential services continue to operate. The Civil Service Commission clarified that most ministries, government agencies, public bodies and institutions will remain closed for the holiday, but companies with special operational requirements can set their own schedules through relevant authorities. This ensures that critical services remain operational and public needs are met without interruption. In a statement posted on its X account, the CSC noted that institutions with ongoing operational needs may adjust their holidays based on public interest considerations. During the holidays, residents should expect a temporary disruption to regular government services while essential services continue to operate with appropriate supervision. This arrangement allows government employees and residents to enjoy the New Year celebrations while carrying out important public functions, ensuring a smooth start to 2026.
