Bangladesh Police claimed on Sunday that two key suspects in the killing of student leader Osman Hadi had fled Bangladesh and entered India through the Meghalaya border, news agency Daily Star reported.Addressing a media briefing in Dhakha, Additional Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police said Faisal Karim Masud and Alamgir Sheikh entered India through Haluaghat border in Mymensingh with the help of local personnel.“According to our information, the suspects entered India through Haluaghat border. After crossing, they were initially received by a person named Purti. Later, a taxi driver named Sami took them to Tura town in Meghalaya,” Daily Star quoted Faisal Karim Masud as saying. He further said that Bangladesh police had received informal reports indicating that Indian security agencies had arrested the people who helped the suspects.Nazrul said the Bangladesh government is actively working to bring back the suspects.“We are maintaining communication with the Indian authorities through both formal and informal channels to ensure their arrest and extradition,” he said.Sharif Osman Hadi was shot dead at close range in Dhaka’s Bijoynagar district on December 12, sparking widespread protests and calls for swift and exemplary punishment for those responsible.According to authorities, Hadi was attacked while riding in a rickshaw near Box Culvert Road in the Motijheel area. He was shot near his left ear, lost a lot of blood and remained in critical condition before being flown abroad.Hadi emerged from the July uprising to become chairman and spokesman for Inquilab Mancha – a platform against all forms of political rule. Hadi was a fierce critic not only of the Awami League but of mainstream politics as a whole, rejecting Bangladesh’s established political elites and positioning himself as a voice of generational disruption.Meanwhile, Inqilab Moncho, one of the prominent platforms that emerged during the July uprising, has warned that it will launch a mass movement to overthrow the interim government if justice is not achieved.
