NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi fed on the occasion of Makar Sankrantiwhich marks the Hindu harvest festival. In the 39-second clip, PM Modi was seen standing outside in a meadow offering food to cows, which were decorated with decorative shawls in keeping with traditional festival customs. Prime Minister Modi on Wednesday conveyed his greetings to the nation on the occasion of Makar Sankranti, a harvest festival celebrated across India in keeping with regional traditions.The festival marks the transition of the sun into the zodiac sign Capricorn (Makar) and is celebrated as a harvest festival in the middle of winter.“This holy occasion of Sankranti is celebrated in different parts of the country as per local customs and traditions. “I pray to Lord Surya for the happiness, prosperity and excellent health of all,” Prime Minister Modi said in a post on X.Prime Minister Modi also attended the Pongal celebrations in the national capital on Wednesday and celebrated it as a global festival representing one of the world’s oldest civilizations.Modi’s presence at the celebrations at Union Minister L. Murugan’s residence here with leaders of Tamil society, including the cast of the recently released film Parasakthi, was seen as a gesture to the southern state, which is due to hold general elections in the next few months.Addressing the gathering, Modi said that this festival honors the hard work of farmers and expresses gratitude to the land and the sun.He said Pongal, which sends the message of maintaining harmonious balance with nature, has emerged as a global festival appreciated by Tamils across the world.“The Pongal festival reminds us that gratitude should go beyond mere words and become an integral part of our daily lives. When the earth gives us so much, it is our responsibility to cherish and protect it,” Prime Minister Modi said at the celebrations attended by Union ministers, bureaucrats and people from a wide spectrum of society.
