'Steady recovery': Poor visibility affects flight operations in Delhi; Advice on airport issues

NEW DELHI: Delhi airport on Tuesday issued an alert for passengers, warning that some arrivals and departures may continue to experience disruption in flight operations due to dense fog.In a post on X, Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) urged passengers to check with airlines for real-time updates on flight schedules.“Flight operations are steadily recovering, however disruptions may continue to occur on certain departures and arrivals. For accurate and timely updates, please contact your airline directly,” IGIA said.“Our staff is available in all terminals to assist passengers and provide necessary support,” it added.Poor visibility also disrupted operations on Monday. According to airport officials, 228 flights – 131 departures and 97 arrivals – were canceled and five were diverted to nearby airports.Air India said it had canceled around 40 flights due to poor visibility, while other airlines, including IndiGo, did not provide exact numbers on cancellations or delays.“Low visibility (below minimum) due to dense fog has significantly impacted operations at Delhi and other airports in northern India,” IndiGo said, adding that some flights may experience delays or proactive cancellations due to safety reasons.Air India also said that operations would resume once conditions improve, stressing that the cancellations were in the interest of passenger safety.Delhi Airport, the busiest in the country, handles around 1,300 flight movements daily.
