US President Donald Trump will deliver a televised address to the nation on Wednesday, outlining plans to strengthen America amid declining popularity due to economic concerns. Previewing his speech to reporters, Trump said: “The message tonight is that we inherited a mess and that we have done a great job and will continue to do so and that very soon our country will be stronger than ever before.” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt also announced that the speech would highlight Trump’s successes in fighting inflation and immigration, which he attributes to the policies of his predecessor Joe Biden.“The president would also discuss his plans to continue delivering for the American people over the next three years,” Leavitt said Tuesday.Trump, the oldest elected president in U.S. history, has consistently praised his administration’s economic performance, recently giving it an “A++++” rating and dismissing concerns about affordability as a Democratic hoax. However, recent polls suggest growing public dissatisfaction with Trump’s economic management. A PBS News/NPR/Marist poll found that 57 percent of Americans disapprove of his handling of the economy. The president has also been criticized within his MAGA movement for prioritizing international issues such as peace agreements in Ukraine and Gaza and tensions with Venezuela over domestic political concerns.Recent Republican defeats in local elections, including mayoral and gubernatorial races, have prompted Trump’s team to shift focus to domestic issues. The president has expanded his domestic travel schedule to spread his economic message and promised to “make America affordable again” during a visit to Pennsylvania last week. Another rally is planned in North Carolina.
